Tari, Steamed Pancake is a light, fluffy pancake with very mild flavour which makes it perfect to serve it with any chutney and curry. It literally takes 15 mins end to end to make Tari.

Ingredients

2 cups – Akki Tari or Idly Rava

1 1/2 cups – Milk

1 1/2 cups – Water

Salt to taste

1/2 cup – Grated Coconut

4 tbsps – Salter Butter ( You can use unsalted as well)

Method

To make Tari, Steamed Pancake, start with mixing Milk, Water and Salt in a jug and keep it aside.

Prepare the steaming plates by greasing them with ghee or butter. I have a well seasoned plates and hence I don’t even have to grease them.

Divide the Idli Rava equally into 4 parts and put them into the steaming plates. 1/2 cup each.

Pour in 3/4th cup of the milk and water mixture into each plate.

Give it a stir with your finger, and mix well.

Sprinkle a generous amount of freshly grated coconut on top.

Add four small dollops of butter on four ends of the plate.

Steam for 5 mins or till the skewer inserted comes out clean.

Take it out of the steamer. Let it sit out for just a minute

Dip the knife in water and run it on the edge to just free up the edges.

Place a plate on top and turn it upside down and tap it. The pancake should fall neatly into the plate.

Serve it with Coconut Chutney, Chilly chutney,Kadale Chutney, Tomato Chutney or any other chutney of your liking.

I use the idly plates for this. But you can always use the pressure cooker utensils, or any other shallow plate.

Do give it a try and write back if you liked it or any other feedback or queries you may have. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram on more updates 🙂
