I come from the greenest part of my state with hills all around, river flowing just outside our estate, peaceful at any point of time, with vegetables and fruits ripened waiting for it to be picked…. Its a heaven!!
Whatever we cook there is so healthy, so fresh and doesnt add a single inch to your waistline. As Rujuta Diwekar says when you eat the local food , when you eat fresh food snd when you eat your food with love, no harm can be done to your body.
This is one of the dishes of our region. It is a steamed dumpling, served with coconut chutney or with any vegetsble gravy. In some parts of karnataka, this is a staple diet. A light yet healthy dish.
Ingredients
1 cup – Rice rava/ idli rava
2 cups – Water
1 tsp – oil
Salt to taste
1 tsp – Jeera
1 tbsp – Butter
1/4 cup – Grated coconut
Method
Boil water in a deep pan. Add a tsp of oil and a tsp of salt to this. Now gradually and continuously add the rava to the water and keep stirring. Make sure there aren’t any lumps. Lower the flame, cover the psn with a lid and cook it for five minutes.
Take this mixture and tutn it on to a wide plate. Let it cool.
Once it has cooled just rnough for you to handle it, add jeera, grated coconut, butter and more salt depending on your taste and mix well. Knead it with your fingers so that itforms a ball.
Make lemon size oval ladoos and steam them in a pressure cooker like idlis.
Serve it with coconut chutney, burnt onion chutney or yellu chutney.
