SAPpesaru - Garlic Dal
  • 1 cup – Toor dal or Moong dal with peel
  • ¼ cup – Tamarind paste
  • 5 no – Green chilly ( more if you like it spicy)
  • 10 no – Garlic pods
  • Salt to taste
  • For tempering
  • 1 tbsp – Oil
  • 1 tsp – Mustard seeds
  • 10 nos – Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  1. Blend the cooked dal, roasted green chillies, garlic, tamarind paste, salt and raw garlic in a mixer till the dal turns smooth.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Let the curry leaves crackle. Add the blended dal and immediately switch off the flame. Do not heat the dal. If the dal cooks then it will lose the raw garlicy flavour…
  3. Use it the same day. Keep it in room temperature and do not heat it. Not that itll spoil the dal but itll take away the authentic taste of it.
  4. Serve it with hot steaming rice with ghee or with Ragi mudde.
  5. You can also serve some roasted green chillies, if you like spice…
