Tari - Steamed Pancakes

Tari , Steamed Pancakes are a speciality in the Malnad region of Karnataka, India. The very healthy, simple Tari is best served hot along with some spicy chutneys and spicy curries.
Ingredients
  • 1 cup - Akki Tari or Idly Rava
  • 1¼th cup - Milk
  • 1¼th cup - Water
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ cup - Grated Coconut
  • 4 tbsps - Salter Butter ( You can use unsalted as well)
Instructions
  1. In a Jug mix Milk, Water and Salt and keep it aside.
  2. Prepare the steaming plates by greasing them with ghee or butter. I have a well seasoned plates and hence I don't even have to grease them.
  3. Divide the Idli Rava equally into 4 parts and put them into the steaming plates.
  4. Pour in 1¼th cup of the milk and water mixture into each plate.
  5. Give it a stir with your finger, and mix well.
  6. Sprinkle a generous amount of freshly grated coconut on top.
  7. Add four small dollops of butter on four ends of the plate.
  8. Steam for 5 mins or till the skewer inserted comes out clean.
  9. Take it out of the steamer. Let it sit out for just a minute
  10. Dip the knife in water and run it on the edge to just free up the edges.
  11. Place a plate on top and turn it upside down and tap it. The pancake should fall neatly into the plate.
  12. Serve it with Coconut Chutney, Chilly chutney,Kadale Chutney, Tomato Chutney or any other chutney of your liking.
